Gazing down on the blue Pacific from high on the hillsides of Manuel Antonio, it's almost impossible to hold back a gasp of delight. Offshore, rocky islands dot the vast expanse of blue, and in the foreground, the rich, deep green of the rainforest sweeps down to the water.
If it's a Friday or Saturday in Manuel Antonio, anybody who's anybody goes to the Mar y Sombra. Located right alongside the beach, open to the comfortable Pacific breeze. There is a huge dance floor accomanied by competent DJ's, and the drinks flow well into the morning hours.
For some good food, check out El Patio. This small bistro-style restaurant is an outgrowth of the popular coffeehouse and roasting company Café Milagro. By day you can get a wide range of coffee drinks and specialties, as well as simple breakfasts, fresh-baked sweets, and a variety of salads, sandwiches, and light lunch dishes. By night you'll find a small and regularly changing list of inventive main dishes that take advantage of local ingredients and culinary traditions.

When you arrive in San Jose, you will be staying at Hostel Bekuo, just named by Lonely Planet as one of the top five places to stay in San Jose. You'll be in one of the best neighborhoods in San Jose, among nightlife second to none in the city. Walking distance to the University of Costa Rica, travelers can head to Calle Amargura, or to El Cuartel, or across the street to Qbico, or down a block to Vyrus, Rio, Sand, Roots, oh.. the list goes on and on.
Cabinas Espadilla will be your host while you are staying in Manuel Antonio. espadilla is the closest hotel to the national park, and is just across the street from the beach. The have their own restaurant as well as a poolside bar for those lazy afternoons at the pool.
While in Manuel Antonio you can easily find transportation to Quepos should you need to do any grocery shopping, along the road between Manuel Antonio and Quepos are numerous restaurants and bars. Right on the edge of town you will find Arco Iris to satisfy your needs for a dance club.
If you're more the outdoorsy travelers, You will be spitting distance to the Manuel Antonio National Park and the beaches within the park. You can also partake in activities like horseback riding, sailing, kayaking, whitewater rafting, canopy tours, and many more.
