Arenal
First of all, the main attraction; Arenal Volcano. Arenal Volcano is a perfectly shaped cone of more than 1,600 meters. It is also known as the "Arenal Peak" , "Pan de Azúcar", "The Costa Rica", and the "Río Frío Volcano". It is considered as the most active volcano in Costa Rica. Almost every night the volcano gives a spectacular show of lights and orange lava flows with its explosive eruptions. During the day you can feel and hear the volcano explode which is already a spectacle on itself.

If you're looking for some great food, try Willy's Caballa Negro. The German owners of this attractive little roadside cafe serve up three different types of schnitzel, both chicken and veal cordon bleu, and a host of other old-world meat dishes. Despite the emphasis on meats and sausages, vegetarians will find several tasty and filling options here, including stuffed potatoes and eggplant Parmesan. There's a small, picturesque lake behind the restaurant and the very interesting Lucky Bug Gallery, run by the owner's daughters.

Source: Market Wire

November 14, 2006 -- The Coastal Challenge, the World's Expedition Run™, today unveiled a number of enhancements that will further establish the event as one of the world's most exciting and challenging multi-day, off-road running competitions. Set in exotic Costa Rica, the 2007 race follows 230 km of rugged terrain to remote areas of the country, and also includes a variety of new features, such as additional categories for participants and guests. Updated information is available at www.thecoastalchallenge.com.

For the first time, The Coastal Challenge is offering three categories of participation in the six-day event: the Expedition Run (230-km course), Adventure Run (115-km course), and the Guest Adventure Tours (six-day, packaged adventure tours such as hiking, rafting, horseback riding, and more). Previous competitions only featured the Expedition Run. The third annual race has been dubbed the "Route of Fire" as much for its start at the base of Arenal Volcano, one of the world's most active that has been flowing consistently since erupting in 1968, as for the scorching temperatures and heated competition anticipated as top runners register from around the world, including participants from the United States, Canada, Europe, Mexico, Malaysia, Singapore and South Africa.
